The Play’s the Radio Thing!

A day of play with William Shakespeare brought to life by The Greenword Tree.

Playing with words, themes, characters and imaginary worlds we will collaboratively bring forth fun, fear, romance, battles, magic, true love, blood-thirsty ambition and more by exploring a play of your choice out of the 4 most loved and performed Shakespeare plays.

1 A Midsummer Night’s Dream

2 The Tempest

3 Romeo and Juliet

4 Macbeth

The themes of these plays will be mined with a strong emphasis on how words are used to create the powerful imagery Shakespeare evokes. Using tailored theatre games we will engage and immerse the pupils fully into the wild, unique world of Shakespeare.

We will develop mini radio scripts of a part of the chosen play, working with the pupils to develop a soundscape which evokes Shakespeare’s worlds of imagery. The results will be recorded to be shared online for the wider school community to enjoy. The school will end its day being adorned by colourful leaves displaying new words created by the pupils as they play at creating their own words, adding imaginatively to the English language as did Shakespeare!

The workshops will be led by Belona Greenwood; award winning playwright and journalist and founder of the Greenword Tree. And Tom Harper -a professional actor who spent 2 years at the Royal Shakespeare Company and also delivers Shakespeare workshops in schools both in London and Norwich.

The workshop can be spread out over the course of a week culminating in a mini Skakespeare festival for your school. Or can be tailored as a creative one day experience. Cost for the week (£650) Cost for 1 day (£300).
